Frequently asked questions about Super White

Super white was arguably one of the most popular stones of 2018 and 2019, and it’s no surprise why. It’s perfect in almost any setting. It has a pleasing aesthetics similar to marble, however, it is denser hence less porous, less likely to chip, scratch and etch. But the real reason why it has become so popular is because of its very contemporary look and colour.  With its subtle grey, not too dissimilar to the popular Carrara, it makes it an easy choice for designers and customers.

Super White is quarried and (for Avant Stone) Sourced directly in Brazil in the south of Bahia. The block is then processed and sent directly to our Sydney Showroom. Processing is where the finish is applied. If you require a large number of slabs honed or polished and cut to size, let us know and we can create an indent order for you, reducing your overall costs.

Super white comes in a variety of patterns. At Avant Stone, we have multiple varieties of Super White Dolomite in Sydney, consisting of Super White Extra, also known as super white Calacatta and a traditional form of Super White. Each type of super white gets named and graded differently at the quarries depending on how rare the pattern of stone is.

One of the most common questions we get asked is “is super white a Marble?” Super white is actually a Dolomite. It does have small aspects of Quartz crystals, and can sometimes be referred to as a quartzite. Make no mistake; super white is absolutely a Dolomite.

Dolomite Stone Benchtops are naturally a very dense material and is much more durable than marble, so don’t let the look deceive you. This density makes it less porous, more resistant chipping, etching, and staining.

The Super White Dolomite Cost is very achievable for most renovators and homeowners. However as the demand for the stone builds internationally, it would not be a surprise if that cost were to increase slowly over time.

Lastly, regardless of the material and its density, always look after your stone. Yes, some stone can be treated rougher than others, but there is no guide to how rough. At Avant Stone, we always recommend sealing your stone. Clean up spills as soon as they happen and don’t chop without a chopping board. Achieve these simple steps and your stone will outlast the test of time.

At Avant stone, Super White Dolomite comes in two finishes, both Honed and Polished slabs. If you do require a large amount of material in a certain finish, let us know as we will be able to help. If you see a stone and want to adjust the finish of it contact your stone fabricator as they would be able to change it for you.
